Which countertop material is best for a bathroom vanity?

The best material depends on how the bathroom is used and the look you want. In a busy family bath, you want a surface that resists toothpaste, cosmetics and hot styling tools. In a powder room that guests use a few times a week, you can choose a softer, more dramatic stone.

Granite

Granite is a natural stone, and every slab has its own pattern and color. Once it is sealed, granite resists chipping, scratching and staining, which makes it a dependable choice for a main or family bathroom.

Quartz

Quartz is an engineered stone with a consistent color and pattern from one end of the slab to the other. Homeowners choose quartz when they want a clean, uniform look and little upkeep. Compare brands and colors on our quartz countertops page.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a natural stone formed from sandstone under heat and pressure. It rates around 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, harder than granite, so it gives you the look of natural stone with excellent scratch resistance. See what is in stock on our quartzite slabs page.

Marble

You choose marble for its classic veining and soft glow. Marble is a softer stone, around 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale, and acidic products can dull the polish. Many homeowners choose marble for a powder room or a primary bath where the vanity sees lighter use. Browse our in-stock marble slabs.

Is granite a good choice for bathroom vanities?

Yes. Humidity, spills and temperature changes are hard on bathroom countertops, and granite holds up to all three. Sealed granite resists water, which helps keep mold and bacteria from taking hold. Daily care is simple: wipe the top with a soft cloth, mild soap and warm water, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. Read more in our guide to granite in the bathroom, or start with our granite countertops page.

Can I use a remnant for my bathroom vanity?

Yes, in many bathrooms. Most vanities are small enough to cut from a remnant, which is a smaller piece of premium stone left over from a larger installation. We keep over 250 remnants in stock in granite, quartz, quartzite, marble and onyx, so you pay only for the stone your vanity needs instead of buying a full slab. Remnants work well for powder rooms, half baths and guest bathrooms. Browse our quartz and granite remnants, and find more ideas in our stone remnant project ideas.

What sink options are available for bathroom countertops?

We carry white and bone bathroom sinks in 15-inch and 17-inch oval and rectangular shapes. Every option is on display in our showroom, so you can see and feel the quality before you choose. You are also welcome to provide your own sink. The installation of your new countertop includes installing the sink. See every size on our sink choices page.

Which edge profile works best on a vanity top?

Your edge choice shapes the style of the vanity. A straight edge gives a clean, modern line, while a quarter round-over or a bull nose softens the corners where people lean. A quarter bevel adds shape without rounding, and an ogee edge suits a traditional bathroom. An edge looks different once we cut it into stone, so we recommend seeing them in our showroom before you decide. Compare all seven profiles on our edge options page.

How does the bathroom countertop process work?

  1. Choose your stone. Pick a remnant from our showroom, or select a full slab at one of our 9 Twin Cities slab selection centers.
  2. Measure. Our template team uses digital laser measuring equipment, and the appointment usually takes less than an hour.
  3. Fabricate. We cut and polish your vanity top in our Burnsville shop on our SABERjet XP, a saw paired with a 5-axis waterjet for a precise fit and tight seams.
  4. Install. Our team sets the new top and installs the sink.
