Granite Countertops in the Twin Cities
With granite, you get a one-of-a-kind countertop that stands up to daily cooking, hot pans and busy family life. All American Granite helps homeowners across Minneapolis, Saint Paul and the surrounding suburbs choose a granite slab, then measures, fabricates and installs the finished countertops. Our design consultants guide every step, and our team cuts every top in our Burnsville shop.

Why choose granite countertops?
Granite forms under extreme heat and pressure deep in the earth, which is why it holds up so well in a kitchen. A pan from the stove or oven will not burn it under normal use, although we still recommend a hot pad. Granite is harder than your knife blades, so cut on a board to keep your knives sharp. Because every slab comes from a different part of the quarry, no other kitchen will have your exact countertop.
How do I choose the right granite slab?
Start with color and pattern. Lighter granite can make a room feel larger, while darker granite adds depth and hides everyday spills. Then consider the finish:
- Polished granite has a mirror-like shine that makes colors look their richest.
- Honed granite has a matte surface with a quieter, more natural look.
- Leathered granite has a textured surface that hides fingerprints.
Granite is also graded, from entry-level builder’s grade to high-grade stone with rare colors and patterns. All American Granite uses only premium stone, with no builder’s grade slabs or quarry seconds. Our granite slab selection guide explains grades, finishes and seams in more detail.
Where can I see granite slabs near me?
You have three places to look. Our Burnsville showroom carries in-stock granite slabs and hundreds of free quartz and granite samples you can take home. For the widest selection, we partner with 9 Twin Cities slab selection centers, where you can browse hundreds of full slabs. When you find the slab you love, the selection center ships it to our shop the next day for a custom tape out. For a vanity, bar top or other small project, our granite and quartz remnants let you buy only the stone you need.
What granite colors are most popular?
Granite ranges from soft whites and grays to bold reds, greens and blues, depending on the minerals in the stone. Salt and pepper patterns, with a gray or black base and white flecks, work with almost any cabinet color. Solid black and dark brown granite look sleek when polished to a high shine. See more examples in our granite color options guide.
How are granite countertops installed?
- Measure. Our template team uses digital laser measuring equipment, and the appointment usually takes less than an hour.
- Plan the layout. Granite comes from the quarry in blocks usually no more than 10 feet long, so a large kitchen may need a seam. Your design consultant shows you where seams will fall before we cut.
- Fabricate. We cut and polish your countertops in our Burnsville shop on our SABERjet XP, a saw paired with a 5-axis waterjet for a precise fit and tight seams. Choose your edge profile and sink before this step.
- Install. Our team sets your new granite countertops and installs the sink.

How do I care for granite countertops?
We seal all granite during fabrication. Over time the sealer wears with use, so plan to reseal your granite at least once a year unless you choose an upgraded sealer at installation. For daily cleaning, wipe the surface with warm water, a few drops of mild dish soap and a soft cloth, then dry it. Keep vinegar, lemon, ammonia and bleach off your granite, because those products wear down the sealer. Our guide to the best way to clean granite countertops covers stains and disinfecting.
Does All American Granite install granite in bathrooms too?
Yes. Granite works well for vanity tops because sealed granite resists water and stains. See our bathroom vanity countertops page and our kitchen countertops page for ideas for each room.
